The internal alterations, refurbishment and extension of Oaklands will transform this tired, run down, care home into first class quality living accommodation and regenerate this Grade II building back to its previous grand state.
The extension has been designed to complete Oaklands in a manner that is informed by the building itself. The scale, mass and proportion of the existing northern section of the main house has been duplicated and mirrored around a line of symmetry to form the historically anticipated building composition.
A contemporary extension was designed, it was felt that the aesthetic of the new extension should not attempt to be a pastiche of the original house. A further extension which took its clues from the architectural form of the original house was not seen as appropriate. To develop a further form in such a manner would lack variation and be overbearing on the purity of the original architectural composition.
